The 20th century will be recorded in history for many centuries to come for the original form of Modernism through the many magnificent art books published during this time.

Early in the 20th century, people for the first time had convenient access to art books. With the growing availability of color printers in the second half of the century, all passions-creativity, ingenuity, technology and adventure-poured into art books as a print medium.

The books featured countless details, such as monographs, exhibition catalogues, catalogues raisonnés, art history and critiques, in all forms, from small-sized books to large-sized books, and artist's books, and specially formatted books.

I am happy to be alive during this precious time for art books and delighted that I was able to record these magnificent books in an art bibliography.

I hope that 20/21C ART BOOKS: A Bibliography of Artists and Art Movements in the 20th and 21st Centuries will be useful for many people in exploring and studying books of this era.

20世紀はモダニズムの原形として、この間に作られた多くの素晴らしい美術書と共に、今後長い間歴史に記録されていくことと思います。

20世紀に入ると、人々が美術書を身近に手に入れることが出来るようになり、世紀後半のカラー印刷機の普及と共に、紙媒体である美術書に、創意、工夫、技術、冒険など、あらゆる情熱が注ぎ込まれました。

モノグラフ、展覧会カタログ、カタログレゾネ、美術史、評論などあらゆる内容と、小型本から大型本、アーティスト・ブック、特殊装幀本などあらゆる形態の本が数多く生み出されました。

この、美術書にとって幸運な時代に居合わせ、これらの素晴らしい本をアート・ビブリオグラフィーという形で記録出来たことをうれしく思います。
